Purchasing Green Coffee: FAQs

Interested in purchasing Josuma Select® green coffee?  Below are some of the basics of how we operate:

WAREHOUSING:  We store our full selection at The Annex, a third-party warehouse located in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Something like 50+ importers store bags at The Annex. This includes a few generalists and even more best-in-class boutique importers and origin specialists. This arrangement gives roasters the ability to combine smaller purchases from multiple importers into a single pallet-size shipment.

PRICING & MINIMUMS:  Minimum purchase is one bag (50 or 60kg, depending upon the coffee). We do offer price breaks for purchases of 5+ bags. Please note that prices are subject to change without notice.

  • For smaller quantities, please reach out to Coffee Project, a re-seller that caters to home roasters and nano-roasters.

ADDITIONAL CHARGES:  The warehouse imposes fees for loading out, palletizing, shrink wrapping, and/or strapping. Fees vary based on fulfillment plan. We add those charges to each buyer’s bill.

PAYMENT TERMS:  We require payment prior to release of coffee. We accept all major credit cards.  We can also accept wire transfers, if needed.

SHIPPING/LOGISTICS: Once a buyer has paid for the coffees, we will issue a Release Order to the warehouse. Buyer will then be responsible for arranging transport of the coffee from the warehouse to buyer’s location. Buyer bears cost and risk of transport.

  • Shipping via UPS Ground:  Josuma can ship one bag purchases via our UPS Ground account. We add that charge to each buyer’s bill.

  • Consolidated Shipments: Smaller roasters (and those not on the West Coast) will find that doing a “Consolidated Shipment” (i.e. combining purchases from multiple importers into a single shipment) is often the most cost-effective way to source higher quality coffees.

TURNAROUND TIME FOR ORDERS: Orders received prior to 9am PT can often be ready to ship the next business day. Green coffee is a morning industry, so add another business day for orders placed in the afternoon/evening.

SAMPLES: We encourage commercial roasters to start with one or two half-pound samples. While we do not offer free samples (we charge $10-15 depending on sample amount), we will apply a $25 credit to any purchase made within 30 days of the sample shipment.  Although some importers offer free samples, we’ve discovered that charging a nominal fee is the best way to identify which roasters have serious interest and which are just window shopping.
