Most people find that performing regular maintenance allows a car not only to perform better but also to last longer. The same is true for an espresso machine.
How well-maintained is your espresso machine?
We’ve identified FIVE DAILY and FIVE MONTHLY/QUARTERLY routines that you and/or your service tech should be performing regularly. Review this checklist to gauge the thoroughness of your maintenance regime.
DAILY ROUTINES:
- Back Flush Machine. (Busier shops may need to do this more than once/day)
- Clean Portfilters. Soak Baskets.
- Flush Drip Tray/Drain Pan.
- Clean Steam Wands.
- Check Steam/Pump Pressure Readings. Adjust, If Needed.
MONTHLY/QUARTERLY ROUTINES:
- Check Grouphead Screens and Portafilter Gaskets.
- Ensure Brew Temperature Is Correct.
- Ensure Shot Volumes Are Correct (for auto-volumetric machines).
- Clean Auto-Fill Probe.
- Soak and Rebuild Steam Wands. Check Knobs. Check for Leakage.
